In short
Turkey's first Microsoft FastTrack data warehouse, built with Kimball dimensional modeling and star schemas; a Microsoft customer success story.
Context
LC Waikiki, early 2010s. Microsoft FastTrack is Microsoft’s reference architecture for data warehouses on SQL Server.
Role: designed the data warehouse, as Senior Business Intelligence Developer.
Approach
- Platform: the Microsoft FastTrack data warehouse approach on SQL Server, the first in Turkey.
- Modeling: Kimball dimensional modeling, with facts and dimensions in star schemas.
- Related work in the same role: a metadata-driven SSIS ETL framework adopted by 80+ pipelines, and the company’s first semantic layer and OLAP cubes (see separate projects).
Architecture and technology
SQL Server on Microsoft FastTrack; a Kimball dimensional model with star schemas.
Outcome
- Turkey’s first Microsoft FastTrack data warehouse.
- Published by Microsoft as a customer success story, in Turkey and globally.
Lessons
- Kimball dimensional modeling is a thread through the later work too: the 80 TB SQL Server warehouse offloaded in 2019–2020 was a Kimball star schema.
